~* Graduation Gown *~
Right..this has been a topic i am quite interested in since i saw the report in newpaper a few weeks back. The report was about how Temasek Poly's graduating students were allowed to wear gowns similar to the University grads' convocation (except without the hat or watever it is supposed to be called and maybe different design of the gown).
A few days later, readers wrote in and had differing opinions on whether Poly students should be 'allowed' to wear gowns for their graduation as gowns are usually 'reserved' for University Grad and above. As usual there were pple who were FOR the move and pple AGAINST it.And it was very interesting to read as both side will like 'shoot' each others' reasons and it was quite entertaining, at least for me.
Before i begin entering my opinion...PLS bear in mind this is just wat i feel now with watever knowledge i have(it might change in future) so if u have different opinions and views..dun shoot me and/or dun 'dun fren' me cos of watever i said k:)
The first thought that came to mind immediately after reading the article b4 the readers wrote in to give their comments a few days later was..WAH..now poly students graduate also wear gown ah..so grand an occasion. But make no mistake, it is definately the proudest day for all the students on their graduation day and the reason y the TP school teachers and staffs wanted their students to wear gown was because they want them to have a memorable day.But when i think back to my graduation in poly, when i was required to wear a blazer, shirt and pants to go collect my certificate on the stage of the auditorium, i remember having great pride too. It was a memorable day for me no less whether i was wearing a gown or just shirt and pants.
I guess the memorable part and the pride part comes when one sees their efforts rewarded at the end of their 3 years education in the polytechnic. If the student is just one that is there to pass time and play and not take their work seriously, wearing a gown or even an armour wouldn't make any difference to them.
And also, not to mean i am an elitist, wearing a gown for the poly graduation will take some shine off those whom have put in alot of effort and time in studying and eventually qualifying for University education. Their Uni Convocation would not be as unique and memorable liao rite since its like they have already worn similar gown b4.
OF cos if u are saying like that uni grad shouldn't wear gown also because it will take the shine off the masters and the doctorate grads but i would say those are like beyond the majority liao. Hence those are so called self actualization/fulfilling goals and i believe even without wearing any gowns or celebration, the graduates will feel pride and happy themselves.
Yup..i guess thats all i have to say.Of cos i this is just wat i feel and i am NOT against any of the decisions.Just sharing my 2cents worth.Any comments??
